McMullan Interpreting is available to provide Deaf awareness training to organisations, employers, charities, schools, colleges and Universities across Devon and Cornwall. Being based in Plymouth, we are ideally placed to make the south-west a more accessible and inclusive region.
For us, equality of access is at the forefront of everything we do, and we want to support organisations in supporting their Deaf staff or students to become more Deaf aware. Deaf awareness training is a powerful tool that can go along way to promoting inclusion and improving access for deaf people and those with a hearing loss.
All of our trainers are Deaf themselves, and British Sign Language (BSL) users, which we feel provides all attendees with the opportunity to learn about the personal and lived experience as a result of the barriers that Deaf people face within their daily lives.
Our highly informative courses cover a variety of topics such as:
Types of deafness and hearing loss
Terminology and the definitions of Deafness
Deaf culture and language
How to work with communication professionals
British Sign Language (BSL)
Basic communication tactics
The Medical and social model of disability
Equality Act 2010
All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance and additional support resources to enable them to continue their learning journey after the course.
